China newspaper article

Read the article on page A* in today's NY Times, and post below why this is an unusual story. By 5 p.m. Friday.

  1. They're trying to let Chen Yongzhou out of prison. No one's telling the truth because it's all a bunch of "he said/she said" back and forth. It's getting attention from all the big propaganda.

  2. In the article, one popular bloger posted that the auturoities never arrested people when official news medial like China Central Television, the national broadcaster, made mistakes. In my point of view, it is very unfair! It is important for the readers to hear a vatiety of opinions. Even though media has to remain the netural and objective position, they haver their own opinions about social issues, like conservative or liberal. Censorship in China is too strict.

  3. With my limited understanding of China and its processes, to me this sounds rather bold of the newspaper to come out with a front page article putting authorities on full blast to release their journalist. It is also interesting to hear that another newspaper, the Global Times, that is communist-run and not usually agreeing with the "liberal" newspaper, The News Express, is also saying that the reporters right should be protected.

  4. After read this article, i totally understand why Chinese press said that they have no freedom, because no matter what they said, the government would examine they writing. So few of the journalist didn't write the truth.

  5. This story is unusual because it prove us that being a journalist is danger. Newspaper write an editorial comment to support their staff is not common in China. Chen was arrested by Changsha police just because he wrote 15 reports to reveal a company’s finical problems. The police didn’t give them a chance to explain before he was arrested. It is ridiculous. Chansha police won’t arrest him with such ridiculous excuse without the support of the government. The freedom of press is impossible under the government control in China. The reporter who has more responsibility and justice, the more dangerous he has.
