ReplyDeleteWe learn about politics, government, and what politicians policies from TV. Media outlets can influence us through ways of reporting, but also by choosing which stories to cover. It’s the pick and chose game that exposes bias. How media presents a story can have an impact in shaping the public’s political knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. We also tend to choose news that goes along with our own views.
The media plays a key role in politics and can often sway voters. A great example of this as far as presidential debates go is JFK and Nixon. Viewers watching on TV were ultimately what helped JFK win the election, because of their perception of him versus Nixon, who did not come across as well on the screen. Additionally, TV news personalities who discuss politics also play a crucial role in talking directly (through the TV, that is) to the people. The people trust these different personalities and can be swayed by them as well. Prominent TV personalities today that focus on politics and who I think have a good hold on people who watch them include Stephen Colbert and John Oliver. Essentially, TV and the media in all forms help create bias for politics and policies for the people, depending on the different views given. With world events such as 9/11 or the wars in the Middle East, we depend on the media to feed us what is happening, and if we didn't have it, we would be lost. With all this being said, we typically choose the TV stations we watch and the websites/newspapers we read based on what generally matches up to what we believe to be true.
ReplyDeleteMedia and TV are the two most influential ways to aware the public on what's going on in the world. All important political debates and news from other countries are portrayed through stories and media coverage. Almost all reporters narrow down which story they want to report and what they want the world to know about a certain topic because too much exposure can be risky. Everyone watches TV that's where people develop their own thoughts and theories so they play a big role in how people are perceiving today's new and other important world events.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, enormous media and press deal with United States election. Therefore, citizens know and learn about current political situation from television and newspapers. These media outlet can much influence on voters. Therefore, the media outlets are not merely choosing which stories to cover. Through the TV and media, people shape their political knowledge, attitudes, and behavior with their pre-existing views.
ReplyDeleteWe have learned a lot about governments and politics from the media. I feel like media outlet can/will influence their followers through the way of their reporting and also the stories that choose to cover. Just by their behavior and attitude about a story you can tell which side they prefer.
ReplyDeleteI think the media and TV have a huge impact on how the people see world events and politics. The media controls what we see so they can choose which things they want us to see and which they don't. For example, during the Vietnam war the government did not have a say or control over the journalists that were covering the war in Vietnam. This resulted in the people in the U.S. being against the war because there was so much blood and images of dead bodies on the TV. Today, the media is controlling the political debates. Even the Europeans asked, "Why is the U.S. media voting for Trump?" Which I think is true because he is so obnoxious that he is getting all the media's attention.
ReplyDeleteI wish the effects of T.V. and the media were bigger. I wish we got to see real life footage from when it happened like people used to. I feel like in the old presidential debates there would be an actual news team there catching everything live and same with war I want that again. Now I feel like people go and cover things with no camera then come back and present what they saw which allows bias to be put in. I want to see what it is like first hand at these things versus knowing what your news station thinks. I wish T.V. had a bigger impact like it used to.
ReplyDeleteNowadays, Media has the power of spreading news all over the world in just seconds,more and more people use social media to get news. Sometimes, government or some organizations use media as a tool to create image of themselves,and then to gain favor from general people, finally to achieve their goal. Some people use media as a tool to run politics. Most of the time when we learn about an event or news, we get it from TV or other news media, so it is very easy to be affected by their opinion and view, it's so hard to keep our own thought without outside's effect.
ReplyDeleteTV and media effect politics and world events in so many ways. Often TV is one of the first sources of breaking news. And how the news is delivered can effect how the public accepts the news. Especially if there are biases in the way the news is presented.
ReplyDeleteI think Television and Media greatly affect politics and other world news, especially in this day and age. Those are the two main sources we get all of our news from. The way it affects people is it creates selective viewers. People can pick and choose what they see and where they get their information about something from. This isn't always a good thing because there could be things that are bias or only get one part of a two sided story. Also through media, you can see how many "likes or shares" a politician or news article gets which can have a great influence on the stories seen, and campaign of someone running for office. Sometimes media makes a story seem like it is something its not or doesn't have the whole truth. All in all it is very influential on what they want you to know.
ReplyDeleteMedia and television are huge factors when it comes to politics, if not the biggest factor. I feel like it contributes heavily to public opinion and can change public opinions very easily. I have read so many articles about politics and my opinion constantly changes just from what I see on facebook or different sources that I have watched or read. Also, when you have news anchors and broadcast stations that are swaying the same way as you, that allows you to become more confident with your opinion and you are more than likely going to watch that television network often. TV and media are where we get most of our news these days and it can be a huge factor in the outcomes of politics.
ReplyDeleteI think media has so much to do with world events and politics. Without media of any kind, how would we even know what is going on? It would pretty much only be by experience and word of mouth. The fact that we can type in our phones anything and it can bring up almost anything we want regarding news shows how powerful media is.
ReplyDeleteIt is also able to influence our decision making. For example, if you watch the same news show everyday, and somebody starts to lean towards one candidate over the other, they might start influencing who you choose.
