America's ethnocentric, eurocentric media

Consider these facts:

What harm to the American people does this do? Why is the media like this?

  1. This seems like it's apart of an agenda to me. The question should be, "why wouldn't the media headline the other attacks?" When big attacks happen, I often think, "how and why is this happening?" The media should be answering these questions by showing us the other attacks. Yes, this is harmful to the American people. If we're gonna send troops overseas to fight them we need to know why we're fighting them.

  2. Having US media not report the rest of these attacks harms us because we aren't getting all the info that I feel most of the world is getting. They pick and choose what stories are making headlines and they typically are the ones that effect us the most, like if an American is involved or if they are our allies. The media is like this because they possibly want to shield us away from all the corruption when it comes to terrorist groups and the middle east. They possibly want the public to believe we have it handled better than what we actually do.

  3. I was wondering this the other day after the Brussels attacks happened. Because from what I have seen in the media, I felt like ISIS hasn't attacked in a long time. But that is obviously not the case. I feel like they are trying to give us a peace of mind in the media but I think it is only hurting us because when the big attacks happen, we are all shocked. I wish all attacks should be in the media because big or small, lives are still lost.

  4. These selected reports on ISIS attacks harms the American people by shielding information away from the public. Because of this, we are not able to make logical assumptions because we're led to believe this is how the media portrays ISIS. Until today, the media portrays muslims in a bad light. I even have friends from Iran who are afraid of their own government.

  5. I think this reporting, or lack thereof, makes the American people blind to what is really happening. We don't see major news about certain attacks, so we become almost close-minded when it comes to ISIS and only want to believe what is the headline news; i.e., the headline news feeds the belief of Muslims being against us. This definitely is harmful to US citizens because it makes us ill-prepared for what could be coming our way, and leaves us uneducated in many ways. Americans seeking the real truth behind ISIS attacks need to dive deeper into the news, not just the headlines. On the other hand, media is also to blame for not reporting other attacks that they may deem less important, when in fact, it is just as important.

  6. The American people are constantly left in the dark when they are only hearing and seeing certain things in the media. All attacks should be reported because everyone is effected and we should be prepared for future attacks. Muslims are made out to be the bad guys because of the way they are being portrayed to us but its much deeper than them. Everyone must open their eyes and realize what's going on so that America will be a better place.

  7. The lack of knowledge of what is going on in the world hurts us because it could always happen here in U.S soil just as it has happen in past events. I don't know why the media picks and chooses what they want America to know, whether they are biased, they are scared, or they don't want America to go into a scared frenzy, but we as the people should know what is going on so we can prepare for the worst and/or help the cause.

  8. I feel like this definitely affects America because we are not getting all the information we need in order to be well educated and informed about ISIS. People make false accusations based off what they hear from other people, but if it would be a more voiced topic in our media I feel like people would have a better understanding. I also feel like we need to be better prepared because ISIS is a very serious group and if we are not well informed how can we prepare properly and make the best choices? I dont know if it is that the media doesnt want to stress Americans out by giving all the details or maybe they think it would cause more harm than good by being more informative and honest, but in my opinion I would rather be prepared and informed than sheltered from the situation.

  9. I think the media is manipulating on ISIS attacks. Because the media only shows the attacks with emphasizing headlines that make derive the most interest from the American. Also, the media reinforces the people have negative perspective on Muslim. So I think the media should reveal the truth of all attacks and develop the discernment of all attacks.

  10. It seems like media focus public’s attention on ISIS western attack on purpose. Media’s new selection affect public’s cognition of ISIS. As the texts in picture mentioned, “media tends to feed a ‘Muslims are against us’ mentality”, this is not media should do. When we learn about how to write a report, we been told that we should be more objective and tell the truth, but what I saw from the picture against what I learned. Maybe this is a common situation in media environment. I have no idea about why they do like this, but I guess maybe there are something about profit in it. I don’t know what kind of interest, but maybe interest of country, interest of leader or any other things could be. Once things related to interests, it is not simple any more.

  11. I believe this cripples the American people because it gives us a false idea of what Isis is and it puts all Muslims in the same box almost. The radicals are the problem, and to blame the entire group for the crimes of the few radicals is just silly. And by not headlining the Muslims that are being murdered, the media is just feeding this. It's sad and unfortunate and I have no idea why the media is this way.

  12. I think the media is like this because they are choosing what they want the American people to see and what they want them to believe. They have not made any of the attacks in the Middle East headline news which causes all Americans to only see the attacks that have been done on the (white) countries and the U.S. The media wants us to think of muslims in general or all muslims whenever we think of ISIS. This harms the American people because they do not get the full story which in turn will harm muslims.

  13. Like previous comments, I think that they are trying to hide it from us because they don't want us to see it. Whether it is because they don't want us to panic or they don't feel like it will affect us as Americans. The reason so many people are against Muslims is because of what they tell us, instead of getting the truth. To be a strong country we need to know what ISIS is doing to everyone and better prepare our country for the future.

  14. This makes it very difficult for Americans to know what is going on. I feel that we should not be getting not told something. The things that go on in the world definitely have an effect on everyone, and everybody deserves to know what is going on. I feel that they do this because they want to control who knows their news.
