  1. It takes absolute guts and the ability to act first and ask questions later. Mrs. Hollingworth showed that through her career and without a doubt had an amazing life.

  2. Like Ms. Hollingworth, international journalists should strive to be passionate about getting the story. Curiosity and energy also make it to the list to be an international journalist. And Ms. Hollingworth was very quick to adapt to her environments, for example, she'd sleep in trucks, so determination is a must as well.

  3. Today, it is almost "easy" to be a citizen journalist, even one that deals with international affairs. However, to be a respectable international journalist, I think one needs to understand the country/community they are reporting about, and have a passion to tell their story.

  8. To be an international journalist one must have a wide breadth of knowledge, passion, adaptability, and the humility to meld into different cultures quickly and intimately. Without the ability to adapt, being thrown into situations your individual culture has not prepared you for can quickly cause your work to falter.
